Source Analysis and Control of 131I Aerosol in Quality Control Laboratory

  • Due to the volatility of iodine, it is easy to cause internal radiation hazards to personnel engaged in the production and quality inspection of 131I radioactive drugs. Taking the quality inspection process as an example, the source and volatilization of 131I aerosol are determined by analyzing and comparing the measured values of radioactive instruments with the theoretical values of decay, and the control measures that can be taken are studied. It is found that the largest sources of 131I aerosol in the quality control laboratory are the capillary tube and pipette suction head in radioactive waste, and the activity of 131I aerosol volatilized in a unit time can reach 1.93×105 Bq/h. The concentration of 131I aerosol can be significantly reduced after the measures of sealing radioactive waste are adopted. The research results have practical significance for properly handling the radioactive waste generated in the quality inspection process, reducing the concentration of 131I aerosol in the quality control laboratory, and protecting the health and safety of quality control staff.
