Current Development of Zirconium Phosphate Composite Ion-exchanger for Removal of 90Sr and 137Cs

  • Efficient removal of 90Sr and 137Cs from high level liquid waste (HLLW) is an important work for sustainable development of nuclear energy. Among many technologies, ion-exchange is considered as one of the protential methods for radioactive nuclides from HLLW due to its low cost, high ion-exchange capacity and excellent stability. Now, various inorganic ion-exchange materials have been investigated for capturing of 90Sr and 137Cs, but there is some room for their application in actual HLLW system. Zirconium phosphate materials are promising potenial ion-exchange and have been attracted much more attention due to their excellent stability and ion-exchange properties. The research progress and development of zirconium phosphate composites for removal of 90Sr and 137Cs are discussed scientifically here.
