MEASUREMENT OF MOISTURE IN POTTERY MATERIAL USING THERMAL NEUTRON TRANSMISSION GAUGE WITH DENSITY COMPENSATION

  • The methodology for measuring moisture in the pottery material using a thermal neutron transmission gauge with the density compensation is reported. The functional relation P(Tn,Tr) and W(Tn, Tr) can be determined by the experimental calibration, for the transmissivity of thermal neutron Tn and γ-transmissivity Tr are all the function of the moisture percentage P and the mass W. Through practical examination on the pottery material, within the practical extent, the measured errors for the mass and the moisture are 0. 65 g and 0. 43%(m/m) respectively. The gauge has satisfied requirements of the use in the worksite.
