Abstract
A procedure is presented for the production and separation of carrier-free ~(109)Cd from irradiated natural silver target with 12.3 MeV deuterons via the ~(109)Ag(d, 2n) ~(109)Cd reaction at a domestic 1.2m cyclotron. After the target was dissolved with HNO_3, silver was removed by electrochemical displacement with copper metal, and ~(109)Cd was quantitatively separated from Cu, Zn and other elements by anion exchange in a mixed HNO_3/HBr medium. Almost no radioimpurities are present in ~(109)Cd obtained (~(109)Cd>99.9%). The recovery is 99%. The low-energy γ and X-ray source of ~(109)Cd is prepared by adsorbing ~(109)Cd on a ceramic disk or electroplating method.
