Abstract:
Radionuclide
54Mn, as a gamma emitter with long half-life and single, high intensity gamma emission ray, has a wide application in many fields. However, so far, the preparation of
54Mn has not been seen in the domestic reports. To obtain radio-isotope
54Mn via an accelerator, the preparation of carrier-free
54Mn by CS-30 cyclotron was investigated in this work. A natural Vanadium target was used and irradiated by alpha beam with the energy of 11.5 MeV and the beam current of 30 μA for 10.5 hours. The irradiated V target was dissolved in 6 M HNO
3 and separated by Dowex-50×8 ion exchange resin. As a result, we obtained about 252 μCi carrier-free
54Mn with radionuclide purity of 99.9% and the yield was about 0.8 μCi/μA·h.
