Abstract:
To investigate the validity of lower abundance 13C-urea in urea breath test(13C-UBT), 53 subjects are randomly divided into three groups consisted of 16,17(with one counted out) and 20 subjects, each of which is performed 13C-UBT using 13C-urea with different 13C abundance of 83. 0%,57. 0% and <0. 01%, endoscope biopsies and 14C-urea breath tests (UC-UBT) are compared as well. The results show that the sensitivity of "C-UBT is 100%(10/10), 100%(6/6)and 0.0%(0/7), the specificity of 13C-UBT is 83%(5/6),90%(9/10)and 92%(12/13), the accuracy of 13C-UBT is 94%(15/16),94%(15/16) and 65%(13/20) correspondingly for the different 13C abundance of 83. 0%,57. 0% and <0. 01%. 13C-urea with lower 13C abundances (83. 0%, 57. 0%) are valid for use in 13C-UBT for helicobacter pylori diagnosis, which can greatly reduce cost of 13C-UBT; whereas, the 13C-urea with extremely low 13C abundance(<0.01%) is not valid in UBT for Helicobacter pylori diagnosis
