Abstract: A review of the chemical and mass spectrometric methods of determining the atomic weights of elements is presented, Special discaision is devoted for the calibration of the mass spectrometer with highly enriched isotopes. It is illastrated by the recent work on europium, How to choose the candidate element for new atomic weight determination forms the last section of the article.
