Abstract: A prototype nuclear gauge with a γ-ray source and dual backscatter detectors was designed for on-lin measurement of coal ash. A calibration model was defined. The calibration model constants were determined by least-square fittings of response data of calibrated samples. Then according to the response data on measured sample and the calibration model the weight of coal ash is obtained from the microcomputer
